Summer on the Gemmi

The Gemmi Pass is not only a unique link between the two cantons of Valais and Bern. It was used centuries ago by muleteers for the transport of goods and people.

In summer, the hiking trails invite you to stroll and explore. A walk around the Daubensee lake is a must. With a bit of luck, you can also see the ibex in the imposing rocks or the bearded vulture making its rounds.
In Lake Lämmern you can even fish for trout.

#1000sheep

During the summer months, around 1000 sheep inhabit the Gemmi. Traditionally, the Shepherds' Festival takes place on the last Sunday in July and transforms the landscape around Lake Dauben into a unique folklore festival. On this day, the sheep are herded together and given the "Gläck". Flag-wavers, alphorn players, and the traditional showdown between the "Bernese" and the "Wallisers" are just as much a part of it as the "Gläck".
